To care for your kapok pillow:

It is important to fluff your kapok pillow daily by hand. To really fluff it simply place in a warm drier for 5 minutes or air in the sun for a few hours.

About once every six months to a year you can wash your kapok pillow. There are two alternatives you can choose from. Wash it in a front loader using a gentle detergent, spin dry on the fastest setting and then tumble dry on low heat with 3 tennis balls. The tennis balls are important because they pummel the kapok and stop it going lumpy.

If you prefer the more traditional method, you can remove the kapok from the pillow shell and air it in the sunshine which will cleanse it (in a large bowl or box with a fine grate or mesh over the top to stop it blowing away) and wash the cotton shell by hand or on a gentle cycle, (be sure to close the zip before washing) then dry in the sun. After putting the kapok back in, close zip and clean with a clothes brush to remove any stray fibres.

Keep in mind that your kapok pillow might seem firm to sleep on at first, but give it a little time and soon it will soften and become so malleable and comfortable.
